This article first appeared in Spanish in Temas, Cuba’s leading social sciences  journal, No. 56, octubre-diciembre, 2008, pp. 95-99.  It summarises a book,  Desafíos de la problemática racial en Cuba, Editorial de Ciencias Sociales, La Habana, 2008; which is also being translated for publication in English.

There are very few contemporary writings on the subject of race in this country and the ones that do exist are by-and-large found in magazines, especially Temas and Catauro [1] There have been more publications abroad dealing with the subject on a contemporary basis…
