Good governance is inextricaly linked to development, but the Western insistence on imposing its own particular brand of ‘democracy’ on non-Western societies ignores the rich experience in other forms of governance in Asia and Africa, many of which were remarkably successful in fostering participation, consultation, accountability, gender equality, dispute settlement, and social peace.
