Trinidad has become the murder capital of the Caribbean. While half a million tourists soak up the carnival atmosphere every year, the government has introduced a state of emergency to try to stop the gang violence that results in a murder on average every 17 hours. ..


For the first ten mins of the video i was worried. It only seemed to be focusing on the poor and in some ways blaming them for the conditions of crime and violence in T and T. Thankfully the video goes on to name what is certainly in plain sight for many of us – that the SOE and curfew was and is a war on the poor. And no fundamental changes to the levels of murder and crime will be seen post-curfew since the authorities have failed 100% to tackle the corruption that fuels and permits both the drug trade and increasing inequalities in society.
