“Small islands—a threatened species in a globalised world”"
I welcome the concept of the right to exist. I see the right to exist as the overarching concept for human rights. How could we genuinely pursue human rights when some countries are not allowed to provide basic goods and services for their citizens? In the same way there are acts that are considered a violation of human rights, there are structures/systems/rules that hinder a country from attaining sustainable development outcomes. These systems should be considered a violation of a country’s right to develoment. This concept of the right to exist should be aggressively pursued in international fora as a key requirement for attaining human rights.
