CONGRATULATIONS JASMINE!!
Your sculpture, your art evokes our Caribbean experience so completely and more. It is us, both past and present, with the pain joys and ambiguities that exist within the landscape of our fractured psyches, the incongruities and juxtapositions that live with us are so poetically revealed in your delicately wrought work that all I can say is that you truly are a magnificent artist. Hum, I just thought of Edna Manley, as artists past and present, two such different ways of working, different times, different experience, both speaking to different and similar issues…….. aspirational, but your work has managed to encompass the historical, the pain, the present and the play even the absurdities and the lightness too. What can I say? Thank you. I nominate you for the Nobel prize- your art speaks a language just as powerfully as Walcott’s words. Different medium both powerful languages.
