The Thought of New World, edited by Brian Meeks and Norman Girvan, was launched on October 1st and 14th 2010 at the UWI Mona and St Augustine. We publish here the reviews and remarks by by Michael Witter,, Annita Montoute and Norman Girvan at the two launchings;, and an open letter to the co-editors from James Millette with the responses from Brian and Norman.

As an undergraduate student of Geography I am interested in the development discourse. In particular I am concerned with how the dominant economic model operates and manifests itself at different spatial and temporal scales. It is indeed unfortunate that, even within universities, we seem not to realize that the ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach to development, as Montoute rightly describes it, does not in fact fit us (the Caribbean/’developing world’/'third world’) very well.
The question is, specifically as a Caribbean people, why and when did we stop questioning? And is it that we were taught to do so?
I am inspired by your comments and will definitely read this book.
